Safer Textiles – guidance about restricted chemicals in textiles

What is Safer Textiles?

Safer Textiles is a collection of tools and guides about chemicals in textiles based on EU and national regulations in 5 Nordic countries (Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark).

The step-by-step chemical tool is a new easy-to-use tool aiming to support especially Nordic small and medium-sized enterprises within the textile related sectors with their work on chemicals in textiles. To provide a simple tool for those who are working as a buyer or designer, e.g. in the quality, CSR or Corporate Sustainability department. The tool is based on the common EU regulations and special national legislation in the 5 Nordic countries. As a fundamental starting point knowledge of the specific composition of the materials (e.g. yarns, fabrics, trims) is essential. This is because the use of specific chemicals is highly related to the specific materials and production treatments like prints and coatings.

The advanced guidance section contains a wide range of existing tools and guides offering more advanced guidance about the use of chemicals in textiles within various areas.
